PCI-SIG Announces Release of CopprLink Cable Specifications

PCI-SIG, the organization responsible for the widely adopted PCI Express (PCIe) standard, has announced the release of the CopprLink Internal and External Cable specifications. These specifications provide signaling at 32.0 and 64.0 GT/s and utilize industry standard connector form factors maintained by SNIA.

"The CopprLink Cable specifications seamlessly integrate PCIe cabling with the PCIe electrical base specification, offering longer channel reach and topological flexibility," said Al Yanes, PCI-SIG President and Chairperson. "These cables are designed to evolve with future PCIe technology generations and meet the demands of emerging applications."

The CopprLink Internal Cable Specification supports PCIe 5.0 and 6.0 technology signaling at 32.0 and 64.0 GT/s and includes the SNIA SFF-TA-1016 connector form factor. It has a maximum reach of 1 m within a single system and is suitable for applications such as motherboard-to-add-in-card and chip-to-chip connections.

The CopprLink External Cable Specification also supports PCIe 5.0 and 6.0 technology signaling at 32.0 and 64.0 GT/s and includes the SNIA SFF-TA-1032 connector form factor. It has a maximum reach of up to 2 m in rack-to-rack connections and is ideal for applications like CPU-to-storage and CPU-to-memory connections.

Both the CopprLink Internal and External Cable specifications are now available for download by PCI-SIG members.
