Ryzen 9000 Launch Update

AMD recently announced the postponement of the Ryzen 9000 launch, but early engineering samples have made their way to some users, particularly overclockers. One such sample is the AMD Ryzen 9 9950X, featuring 16 cores, 32 threads, a base clock frequency of 4.3 GHz with a max boost of 5.7 GHz, 80 MB cache, and a TDP of 170 W.

One user managed to overclock the 9950X sample to 5.953 GHz using an ASUS ROG Crosshair X670E motherboard and 32 GB DDR5-6000 memory. The performance gains were significant, with Geekbench 5 and Geekbench 6 scores showing improvements over the stock configuration. AMD also overclocked the processor to 6.6 and 6.7 GHz using liquid nitrogen.

Geekbench 5 scores for the AMD Ryzen 9 9950X at 6.0 GHz were 2795 points for single-core and 30050 points for multi-core performance, representing a 10% and 13% increase, respectively, over stock. When compared to the Intel Core i9-14900K, the overclocked 9950X showed a 12% advantage in single-core and a 16% lead in multi-core performance.

Geekbench 6 scores for the processor were 3706 points in single-core and 26047 points in multi-core tests, showing a 10% and 20% improvement over stock. In comparison to the Intel Core i9-14900KS, the Ryzen 9 9950X outperformed it by 16% in single-core and 19% in multi-core benchmarks.
