SK hynix Expands DDR5 Memory Lineup with 7200 MT/s Chips

SK hynix is set to broaden its DDR5 memory portfolio with a new range of high-speed chips rated at 7200 MT/s, surpassing the current JEDEC standard of 6400 MT/s. Recent product listings on Chinese retailer JD.com, highlighted by hardware enthusiast @unikoshardware, reveal several new SK hynix DDR5 modules featuring previously unseen part numbers. These developments indicate that SK hynix is actively advancing its DDR5 technology to meet the growing demand for faster and more efficient memory solutions.

New DDR5 Dies and Increased Densities

The latest findings show that SK hynix has developed four new DDR5 dies, each capable of achieving 7200 MT/s speeds, as denoted by the "KB" suffix in their part numbers. These dies offer memory densities ranging from 2 Gb to 4 Gb, including the company’s first 2 Gb B-die and a 4 Gb M-die. The introduction of a 4 Gb M-die marks a significant milestone, as it is the first time SK hynix has offered this process node at such a capacity.

Below is a summary of the new SK hynix DDR5 chips:

  • H5CGD8AKBD-X021: A-die, 7200 MT/s, 3 Gb
  • H5CC48BKBD-X030: B-die, 7200 MT/s, 2 Gb
  • H5CG48CKBD-X030: C-die, 7200 MT/s, 2 Gb
  • H5CG58MKBD-X051: M-die, 7200 MT/s, 4 Gb

Advancements in DDR5 Module Design

Just last week, reports surfaced about SK hynix’s second-generation DDR5 memory chips featuring 3 Gb A-die ICs, with samples utilizing an 8-layer PCB. To fully leverage the performance of these new dies, memory manufacturers are expected to transition to 10 or 12-layer PCBs, which provide enhanced signal integrity—an essential factor for stable operation at higher speeds and during overclocking.

The modules currently listed are likely early engineering samples, with further refinements anticipated as production scales up. While SK hynix has yet to make an official announcement regarding these new DDR5 chips, the appearance of these listings strongly suggests that development is progressing rapidly.

As the demand for high-performance memory continues to rise, SK hynix’s advancements in DDR5 technology position the company at the forefront of next-generation DRAM innovation, offering faster speeds and greater capacities for a wide range of computing applications.
