Lofree Unveils the Hyzen: A Futuristic 65% Keyboard with Hybrid Switch Technology

Lofree, renowned for its innovative and unconventional peripheral designs, is set to launch its latest creation: the Hyzen keyboard. Building on the brand’s reputation for unique devices like the Hypace wireless gaming mouse and the Lofree Flow 2, the Hyzen introduces a fresh approach to keyboard engineering, blending advanced materials with cutting-edge switch technology.

Premium Build and Distinctive Features

The Lofree Hyzen is a compact 65% keyboard crafted from CNC-cut aluminium, offering both durability and a sleek, modern aesthetic. Despite its minimalist appearance, the Hyzen is packed with features designed to enhance the typing experience. The keyboard utilizes a gasket mount design, which is favored for its improved typing comfort and sound dampening qualities.

One of the standout features is its impressive 10,000 mAh battery, which Lofree claims can deliver up to 80 hours of continuous use. The Hyzen supports wireless connectivity, with tri-mode options including 2.4 GHz, Bluetooth, and a wired connection, making it versatile for various setups and preferences.

Introducing the Nexus Hybrid Switch

At the heart of the Hyzen is the all-new Nexus switch, developed in collaboration with Kailh. This innovative switch combines the tactile feedback of traditional mechanical switches with the advanced capabilities of magnetic TMR (Tunnel Magneto-Resistance) technology. The Nexus switch features a magnet embedded in the stem for TMR functionality, alongside metal contacts and pins for classic mechanical operation.

This hybrid design allows for customizable actuation distances, low latency, and analog input features, while still delivering the satisfying tactile response that mechanical keyboard enthusiasts expect. According to Lofree, the Nexus switch is the first of its kind, setting a new standard for keyboard switch innovation.

Enhanced Usability and Customization

The Hyzen keyboard includes several thoughtful design elements aimed at improving usability. A physical toggle allows users to switch the number row to a function row, with a dedicated LED indicator above the number row to display the active mode. Additionally, a rear-mounted knob provides intuitive volume control, and a dedicated switch lets users seamlessly alternate between wireless and wired modes.

Powering the Hyzen is the Nordic nRF54L series MCU, enabling an impressive 8 kHz polling rate for ultra-responsive performance—an important feature for both gamers and professionals who demand precision.

Availability and Pricing

The Lofree Hyzen is set to debut on Kickstarter on April 23. Early bird reservations are currently available through the Lofree website. The tri-mode wireless version will launch at $189 for early backers, with a future MSRP of $299. A wired-only version will be offered at $169 during the campaign, with a planned retail price of $279.

With its blend of premium materials, innovative hybrid switch technology, and user-focused features, the Lofree Hyzen is poised to make a significant impact in the mechanical keyboard market.
